Basics

Short drama apps use one simple model. Tiny vertical episodes are what you watch. The first few cost nothing. Later ones cost coins or a pass. That divide is the source of most confusion. These five answers are the place to start.

What is a short drama app, exactly?

It streams vertical video made for phones. A series is split into many tiny episodes. Out in front are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. The storylines favor Race to My Heart full episodes billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf romances also have wide popularity. The format started in China as duanju.

How long does each episode run?

Most clock in at one to two minutes. 60 to 100 seconds is a common target for Western productions. Usually, a series has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort’s listing for Married at First Sight shows 90. ReelShort’s hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can match a movie in length.

Why do episodes stop right at cliffhangers?

Usually, that is where the free episodes run out. ReelShort states that the first 5 to 15 are usually free. Reports from the industry cite 8 to 10. The lock tends to arrive right at peak suspense. That very timing is the business model. It is also a leading viewer complaint.

Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?

ReelShort belongs to Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group backs that studio. Operating DramaBox is Singapore’s StoryMatrix, which is part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama comes from Holywater, a company founded in Kyiv in 2020. October 2025 is when Fox Entertainment took an equity stake. In terms of launch dates, ReelShort arrived in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.

Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?

Yes, though there are limits. There is an Apple TV app for My Drama. No verified ReelShort TV app turned up in our search. ReelShort’s website supports Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. The app and the site sync your progress. Free unlocks work only in the app.

Costs

The most common questions are about money. The figures given are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary depending on country, platform and promotion. Take each number as approximate. Before anything else, always look at the price screen. Below is what the listings show.

Is ReelShort actually free?

Partly, and the free portion is real. What people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want is the catch. There is no charge for the download. Opening episodes come free. Later ones require coins or a VIP pass. Free coins come from ads and check-ins.

How do coins work?

Episodes are unlocked with coins, the in-app currency. ReelShort’s blog sets an episode at roughly 60 coins. Its smallest pack offers 500 coins for roughly $4.99. Bonus coins come with bigger packs. You earn 100+ coins from a 7-day check-in streak. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.

Do coins ever expire?

The answer depends on the app. ReelShort says free reward coins usually expire. Paid coins do not. My Drama handles this differently. Its terms say coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Stay active and spend reward coins first.

What is the price of a weekly pass?

Around $19.99 a week is the common US price. ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama show it. Cheaper tiers show up in some apps. ShortMax lists $9.99, and GoodShort starts around $5.99. Every one of these passes renews on its own. Four forgotten weeks cost four times as much.

Are there any monthly or yearly plans?

They exist in some apps. A yearly plan appears on ReelShort’s blog at roughly $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. That figure is therefore unconfirmed. Roughly $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. ShortMax shows only weekly passes in the US.

Can I watch for free, without paying?

Yes, if you have patience. First, watch each series’ free first episodes. Open up more by watching rewarded ads. Keep up a daily check-in streak. ReelShort’s official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels are another option. Combining all four goes furthest.

Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions

Until you stop them, weekly passes keep renewing. Plenty of people don’t expect that. Cancelling is quick once you know where. The place depends on how you paid. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Purchases on a website are the company’s to handle.

Does removing the app cancel my subscription?

No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Removing an app does not end its subscription, Apple says. Google says the same of uninstalling. My Drama’s terms repeat that warning. Until you cancel, the pass keeps renewing. Cancel first, delete afterward.

How do I cancel on iPhone?

First, open the Settings app. At the top, tap your name. Then go to Subscriptions. Pick the drama app from the list. Tap Cancel and confirm. Do it a day before renewal to be safe.

How can I cancel on Android?

Begin by opening the Google Play Store app. Find your Subscriptions list. There, select the short drama app. Tap Cancel and follow the on-screen prompts. Do not forget that uninstalling cancels nothing. To confirm the change, recheck the list.

Can I cancel inside the app?

Sometimes, but going through the store is safer. In ShortMax’s terms, there is mention of an in-app option under About Subscription. Those terms direct store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google only control what they billed. Website buyers should contact the company. Screenshot each and every cancellation.

Why was I charged after a free trial?

Trial wording can be confusing. ShortMax’s developer admits that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. Under its terms, passes renew 24 hours before they expire. The renewal is charged at the same price. Make sure to cancel a day before any trial ends. Then check the store shows it cancelled.

Refunds

Refunds come down to who took your money. Apple deals with App Store charges. Google takes care of Play charges. Website charges go through the companies. None of these routes guarantees a refund. This table lays out each path.

How do I get a refund from Apple?

Begin on Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that was charged. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple’s reply usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours. The decision is Apple’s, not the app developer’s. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.

How do Google Play refunds work?

What matters most here is timing. Within 48 hours of purchase, you may get a refund, Google says. Ask for it directly through Google Play. When that window is over, contact the developer. ReelShort tells users to go to Profile, then Feedback. If a renewal surprises you, act quickly.

What about website purchases?

Those purchases go through the app company. There, Apple and Google cannot help. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. Its terms give EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Other companies’ rules are their own. Before paying online, read the terms.

Is it possible to refund unused coins?

Usually not, and the terms make that clear. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. ShortMax will not refund unless its own fault makes a product unusable. Store requests may help with accidental buys. Until a series grabs you, stick to the smallest coin pack. Mistakes then cost less.

Look-Alike Apps and Safety

Confusion over names is everywhere here. Misspellings land you on minor unrelated apps. Some sites are copies of well-known brands. A few downloads are not safe. Real names safeguard your money. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.

Is Real Short a real app?

No, not as far as we could find. Real Short is just a misspelling of ReelShort. So are “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The real name is one word, not two. On the App Store, its seller is New Leaf Publishing. Make sure of that before downloading.

What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?

They are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It has nothing to do with ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, which people often type as “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV, an Android TV app, has 10K+ installs. Most people searching probably mean GoodShort.

Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same app?

Very likely, although it is unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Its website forwards to ShortTV’s site. The two launched in September 2023. No official rename announcement turned up. Searching “short tv” or “short max” also turns up unrelated apps.

Are mod APKs and coin generators safe?

No, and not one is official. Altered app copies from outside official stores are what mod APKs are. One look-alike of DramaBox openly calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators, too, are unofficial. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Stay with official stores and websites.

Why is ReelShort rated so low on Trustpilot?

From 250 reviews, ReelShort’s Trustpilot page shows 1.3 out of 5. Being charged after cancelling is a common complaint. Weekly auto-renewals often come up. Others mention coin prices and refused refunds. Any review site mirrors the people who chose to post. Use it as a list of things to check rather than a verdict.
